Dog-Blooded Love Story 10

This development... was truly beyond anyone’s expectations.

Not only were Gu Jing and the other four Extraordinaries deeply shaken, even Ling Jing fell silent for a moment before remembering to ask Qin Jingzhou, “Boss, is this feasible?”

Qin Jingzhou replied succinctly, “It is.” He sent the next words to Ling Jing via sound transmission, “The spiritual coffins contain Golden Core stage Extraordinaries. Even if they swap one out each year, and you tally that up over a hundred years, the accumulated spiritual power is about one-fifth of the total power in the body of a typical Divine Transformation Stage practitioner.”

This time, Ling Jing was even quieter than before. “Using one-fifth of a Divine Transformation Stage cultivator’s power to open a direct passage to the Spiritual Realm... they really are audacious.” She couldn’t help but feel a tinge of pity for Zhong Dewen and Xuan Helin as a couple. “Truly, ignorance breeds fearlessness.”

Their logic isn’t actually wrong, just overly optimistic. If this passage were truly opened, it would go straight to the opposite antimatter world.”

Ling Jing hesitated. “Boss, why do I get the feeling you... actually want to see this happen?”

Qin Jingzhou smiled. “Indeed. Don’t be fooled by how much I just spelled things out for them; Gu Jing and the others will definitely have a serious discussion when they return, but most Extraordinaries are used to forcing their prodigies to make sacrifices in the name of the greater good. Now, with the so-called greater good gone, everything goes back to how it ought to be. For example, resources would tilt toward the prodigies again, and they’d be expected to yield results regularly, or else they don’t get resources. You can imagine how much resistance that would face.”

Ling Jing understood instantly. “Boss, weren’t you already thinking of ways to make the vast majority of lazy and selfish Extraordinaries learn their lesson?”

Qin Jingzhou nodded with a smile. “That’s why Zhong Dewen and Xuan Helin showed up at just the right time. Unless they have to pay the price in blood and lives, they’ll never learn.” After a pause, he added, “Xuan Yuan designed the sealing array. He and that group of self-sacrificing pioneers really were great, but most of today’s Extraordinaries aren’t worth heroes laying down their lives for anymore.”

Ling Jing rubbed her forehead. “The vast majority of ordinary people still know nothing about this, right?”

“That’s a major strike against them in my eyes.”

While Qin Jingzhou and Ling Jing were exchanging sound transmissions, Xuan Qing, who was sitting beside his father, couldn’t suppress his feelings any longer. Even though Yuan Lingmei was gripping his hand tightly, he still trembled with fury. “So this was all part of your plan! Did you ever see me as a real person?”

To tell the truth, if Xuan Helin were to speak her mind, she didn’t actually have much affection for any of her sons, but she couldn’t say she didn’t see them as people either. Still, compared to her own future... a dead son means she survives.

But with Xuan Qing’s biological father sitting right there, Xuan Helin didn’t dare provoke Xuan Qing too much. “Building a direct passage to the Spiritual Realm means saving the world.” The subtext was that, to save the world, she’d stop at nothing. With that, she even flashed Zhong Dewen a charming smile.

This manner infuriated Xuan Qing.

He shot up, eyes bloodshot, condensed spiritual power into a sword, and stabbed at his biological mother.

Qin Jingzhou waved his hand, and a turbulent current of spiritual energy brutally dispersed Xuan Qing’s energy sword. Then he reached out and pulled his son, who was about to fly into a violent demonic frenzy again, into his arms. “Your mother really does know how to push your buttons.”

The last shred of Xuan Qing’s rationality told him that his father wasn’t reluctant to hurt Xuan Helin, but was afraid he... would lose it completely. So he forced himself to suppress his emotions, saying bitterly, “Why can’t you be my heart tribulation, Dad?”

Qin Jingzhou laughed, stuffed his son’s hand back into the somewhat at-a-loss Yuan Lingmei’s hand, and flicked his fingers at Xuan Helin.

Xuan Helin didn’t even have time to react before she was sent flying out of the hall.

Zhong Dewen had been tense from beginning to end. Even though they were counting on Senior Ying Jingzhou’s love for his only son to hold him back, this was a gamble with heavy risks. Before coming, he’d been prepared for total mutual destruction.

Even as his wife vanished from his side in a flash, he still thought: Senior Ying lived up to his reputation — hard to deal with, but extremely reasonable.

Then he hurried out after her.

The four Extraordinaries and the two couples left inside the hall were deep in thought when they heard a loud “bang,” then Xuan Helin’s shout, “We’ll do it ourselves even if we have to beg no one!”... Qin Jingzhou waved at the four Extraordinaries. “If you’re interested, go after them.”

The four Extraordinaries stood to take their leave. Gu Jing was the last to exit, glancing at Qin Jingzhou, hesitating to speak.

Gu Jing was both Gu Lingfan’s grandfather and Ye Lingtian’s maternal grandfather. Qin Jingzhou quite admired those two “Ling” generation Fate’s Sons and thus was willing to be a bit more patient with Gu Jing too. “What do you want to ask?”

Gu Jing considered for a moment before asking bluntly, “Where will that passage open up to?”

Qin Jingzhou was just as direct. “Anywhere but the Spiritual Realm.”

For a moment, Gu Jing didn’t know what expression to make. His companions had already chosen to follow after Zhong Dewen and Xuan Helin, so he had no choice but to catch up.

Once all the guests had left and Xuan Qing had gradually calmed down, Gu Lingfan finally asked cautiously, “Are they really going to destroy the sealing array and build a... completely uncertain new passage?”

Yuan Lingyi also spoke up. “That’s just grasping at straws!”

From Senior Ying’s reaction, they could tell that Xuan Helin’s idea was unreliable at best, but Senior Ying’s calm demeanor gave them confidence: even if Xuan Helin and her husband made a mess of things, Senior Ying could still handle the aftermath.

Once that dawned on her, Yuan Lingyi gave a sharp laugh. “I wouldn’t want Senior Uncle Ying looming over me... they’re really committed.”

Gu Lingfan shook his head. “No matter what, once you choose your path, you have to see it through, no matter how hard it is. But this will definitely splinter the Extraordinaries into various factions.”

Yuan Lingmei stayed forthright as ever. “They’ve been at odds for ages.” She looked at Gu Lingfan. “And they’ve been dissatisfied with your grandfather for a long time too.”

To Gu Lingfan’s surprise, he actually smiled. “That might not be a bad thing.”

As a Fate’s Son, Gu Lingfan would sacrifice himself for the world’s sake, but that didn’t mean he was willing to be a martyr with no limits.

Under the table, he squeezed his girlfriend’s hand, keeping an eye on Xuan Qing as he addressed Qin Jingzhou. “Senior Ying, can I tell my cousin what happened here?”

Qin Jingzhou patted Xuan Qing’s shoulder and agreed. “Of course.”

Ling Jing hurriedly sent a sound transmission, “I keep thinking there’s no way Ye Lingtian’s rebirth and friendship with Gu Lingfan are anything sinister. The plot I’ve seen mentions more than once that Ye Lingtian and Su Jinxi refused to enter the main coffin, and they absolutely detest the sealing array.” After a pause, she added, “From what I can deduce, it’s less that they hate the sealing array, and more that they loathe those Extraordinaries using the array and the greater good to carry out ruthless moral coercion.”

Qin Jingzhou replied with a smile, “But no matter how much Ye Lingtian and Su Jinxi resent it, they can’t get rid of those toxic Extraordinaries who say ‘I’m useless and proud of it, even prodigies have to enter the coffin.’”

Ling Jing laughed too. “But the array is what’s right there.” She leaned in toward Qin Jingzhou. “Once the sealing array collapses completely and Negative energy spews out of the domain passage, it’ll give this world’s Extraordinaries a real lesson.”

“That’s my plan,” Qin Jingzhou said. “Before the two worlds truly collide, even if the Negative energy leaks more severely, a Divine Transformation Stage cultivator is more than enough to handle it. The conditions in this world are pretty good; raising Divine Transformation Stage cultivators is nearly effortless.”

Ling Jing understood immediately. “Two or three stay behind, the rest can ascend as they like. That easy?”

Qin Jingzhou nodded with a smile. “My son is a sure bet for ascension to Divine Transformation. Gu Lingfan and Ye Lingtian should be fine too. With Divine Transformation, they can physically travel across the universe — great for treasure hunting and exploration — and use what they find to support their home world.”

Ling Jing couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation. “If only the extraordinary world would change how resources are allocated so prodigies could actually cultivate and reach Divine Transformation early... Now, that’s the true way to save your own neck! So it started as a natural disaster, but in the end, human nature made it a manmade one!”

In that instant, she finally understood why, upon learning the truth, Ye Lingtian and Su Jinxi really did think, “Screw it, let’s just end it all.”

Qin Jingzhou responded, “Exactly. When I first read the story, all I saw was the calamity. Only after arriving here did I realize just how problematic the local Extraordinaries are. Otherwise, the World Will wouldn’t have sent out two Fate’s Sons back-to-back yet still failed to change things, finally having no choice but to cooperate with another world’s consciousness for help.” He added deliberately, “My appearance fees are quite high, you know.”

He wasn’t joking.

Ling Jing thought to herself: My task is just to guide or set Ye Lingtian and company free, but the boss’ task is the straightforward saving of the world.

While Qin Jingzhou and Ling Jing exchanged cheerful banter, Xuan Qing calmed down a lot too. Under everyone’s gaze, he stood up. “I’ll go cook and cool off.”

Gu Lingfan watched Xuan Qing go into the kitchen. Just then, his phone chimed.

He saw that Ye Lingtian had replied: The sealing array won’t collapse the way Zhong Dewen and Xuan Helin are planning. Let’s talk in person three days from now... if I’m still alive by then.

Gu Lingfan jumped to his feet. “Senior Ying, I have to go home right away!”

His urgency made it clear to Yuan Lingyi that something serious had happened, so of course she hurried after him.

Once the young couple had left, Ling Jing asked, “When the array collapses and Negative energy floods in, at least a third of the Extraordinaries will be wiped out, right?”

Qin Jingzhou replied, “More than that, but destruction brings rebirth. I’ll protect both generations of Fate’s Sons.” He shot a look at his son, who pretended not to care. “My son, Gu Lingfan, and Ye Lingtian — don’t forget, the triangle is the most stable structure.”
