True and False Heiress of a Wealthy Family 4

In this timeline, Hua Country’s overall strength surpassed Qin Jingzhou’s original homeland. While still ranked second on the planet, that was only because its average had been dragged down; when facing the global number one, the White Eagle Federation, Hua Country was never afraid to compete head-on. In terms of scientific research, at the very least, they were on equal footing with the White Eagle Federation.

So after only one night and one day, with two vials of potion, Hua Country’s top scientists were not only able to confirm the potion was nontoxic, but also discover its incredibly powerful effect: it dramatically activated brain cells, leading to a qualitative leap and the awakening of... spiritual power.

People in this world from Hua Country had never encountered extraordinary powers before, yet in a short time they reached the right conclusion. The reason the Qin father and son could “sense” each other was, in fact, because after their spiritual power was awakened, they could easily recognize their “kind” when in close proximity.

The top scientists, just like Old Master Qin and Senior Brother Qin, immediately understood how valuable and important this discovery was. Early in the morning, the officials sent an important figure to visit him, promising to help him register a confidential patent to fully protect his rights and wishes, and then amiably asked if he had any other requests.

Qin Jingzhou repeated once more that all he wanted was for his daughter to suffer a little less.

Not long after seeing the important figure out, his previously assigned assistant was replaced with a studious guy sporting glasses. Qin Jingzhou could sense that this bespectacled assistant had an intelligence level of 18—an intelligence score of 18 was truly one in a million in this world, with only a few thousand such geniuses in all of Hua Country, most of whom spent their days buried in research labs.

Qin Jingzhou couldn’t help but chuckle. “Now that’s sincerity. There really is something to look forward to in this world.”

As soon as Gao Wen, the new assistant in glasses, started his job, he instantly proved his abilities. It took him a very short time to gather and organize everything that had happened to He Chunxi over the past two years, and he chose to report everything exactly as it was, not worrying that it would upset his boss who had just woken up—following his old habit from grad school, he immediately started calling Qin Jingzhou “boss.”

After hearing what his daughter had been through in just half a year, Qin Jingzhou wasn’t furious but he couldn’t keep his emotions from fluctuating.

He quietly complained to the System. “I was thinking I’d nurse her for a while before seeing my daughter.”

The System replied honestly, “The original host’s body was so thin it was barely recognizable, really can’t say anything flattering about his appearance—was handsome before.”

The little System rarely praised anyone, and Qin Jingzhou couldn’t help but laugh. “Looks like I really do need to recuperate.”

He Chunxi, carrying her luggage, walked out of the building, only to be blocked by a refined young man in gold-rimmed glasses, a perfectly fitted white shirt, and slacks.

After introducing himself and showing his work ID, the bespectacled young man stepped aside and pointed at a low-profile business car parked not far away. “Professor He is waiting for you in the car.”

He Chunxi let out a startled “ah.” Only when she followed the bespectacled young man and sat, a little dazed, in the rather spacious car, did the grief hit her as she looked at her now unfamiliar father. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier!” she choked out, throwing herself into his arms and half-laughing, half-crying, “You’re skin and bones, it’s like hugging a skeleton!”

Qin Jingzhou gently patted his daughter’s back. “My girl’s suffered a lot. Dad owes you.” No sooner had he spoken than his mouth was covered by his daughter’s hand. He turned his head slightly and smiled. “Alright, Dad won’t say it anymore.”

Gao Wen, in the front passenger seat, turned his head at this moment, his mouth moving silently to tell Qin Jingzhou, “The meeting’s over. The principal is asking when you’ll be available.”

The original host had slipped into a coma and become a vegetative patient for no apparent reason, and the initial medical expenses had all been covered by the university. He Chunxi didn’t hold that against them; what disappointed and even embittered her was the way the university treated her father afterward. She’d consulted experts, and with the care provided by the school, her father could only be kept alive; the chance of waking up was slim.

That’s why He Chunxi resolved, even if it meant “selling a kidney,” to save her father, at least keeping the hope of waking him up alive.

To look at it objectively, the original host was just an ordinary professor with no particular outstanding achievements. Given his rank and contribution, the fact that the university footed the bill for his continued life support at a reasonably responsible hospital was already as much as could be asked, and there was no reason to feel the school owed them anything.

But when Qin Jingzhou transmigrated over, he immediately produced a world-shattering breakthrough, alarming the Elder’s Council through his senior brother and teacher. The school took almost a whole day to get a sense of what had happened, and then... Well, judging by their reaction, they clearly intended to go all out with kindness and spare no expense to keep him.

Qin Jingzhou certainly wanted to stay—mainly because the original host’s parents passed away early, and he genuinely felt attached to the school and to the Qin father and son.

Of course, the thing the original host couldn’t put down most of all was the beloved daughter he’d raised. Even the wish “for my biological daughter to return to my side” came after “let Xiao Xi be safe and happy.”

He nodded at Gao Wen. “Alright, I’ll meet with them.”

Then he continued to gently coax his weeping daughter. “Sweetheart, do you still want to stay in showbiz? Now that Dad’s awake, you don’t have to suffer anymore.”

She wanted out, more than anything!

The industry disgusted her; if not for her father... but no matter how impressive her dad’s contacts as a professor at Capital University, he couldn’t go up against capital itself. Thinking this, He Chunxi quietly gritted her teeth. “I’ll finish my work and then I’m done. I want to see things through.”

Qin Jingzhou drew her close, gently lifting her chin. “I can hear you don’t mean it.”

The original host’s personality was quite similar to his own, so playing this part wasn’t hard. Although the father and daughter relied on each other deeply, the original host’s work had always kept him very busy, and real time spent with little Xiao Xi was actually limited.

He Chunxi’s voice was choked as she didn’t reply, “No wonder the deputy general manager’s attitude was so different when he contacted me yesterday.”

Qin Jingzhou looked over at Gao Wen again. “My daughter still isn’t clear on my real accomplishments.”

Gao Wen pushed up his glasses. “Don’t worry, boss. I’ll explain.”

Qin Jingzhou then asked, “What’s the background on the Ji Family?” He Chunxi’s head snapped up, and Qin Jingzhou ruffled her hair. “Tell me in detail.”

Gao Wen said, “Ji Chun’s mother is my aunt.” That connection didn’t stop him at all from exposing everything, “Ji Chun is nothing to worry about. His grandfather is a decorated war hero, but the old man now has dementia and is lucid less and less often. His father did make a name for himself through real effort, though. Want me to get in contact with the Ji Family for you?”

Qin Jingzhou frowned slightly. “Dementia?”

His Intelligence Potion’s main ingredient was the Golden Ginseng extract containing a thread of spiritual energy. By his estimation of Hua Country’s reserves, it would be a stretch to produce five thousand bottles of the potion in the coming year. And due to Golden Ginseng’s pitiful output, if left alone, production would stabilize at just under a thousand bottles per year—classic supply failing to meet demand, and with effects like this, the potion would never be known to the entire world.

Thanks to the Intelligence Potion, he had caught the attention of the elders and was valued by them. But if he wanted to be impervious to capital and other external forces in the future, this contribution alone was nowhere near enough.

He needed to keep producing world-changing research.

Now that he had used the Brain Cell Activation Intelligence Potion to test the waters, his plan was to produce a Brain Cell Repair Awakening Potion next.

With his mind made up, he told the driver, “Let’s go home.”

Just as he spoke, his daughter’s phone rang. He Chunxi glanced at the screen and had no intention of answering it. Qin Jingzhou saw “Ji Chun” on the display and said, “Sweetheart, take the call.”

Once the call connected, before she could even turn on the speaker, a furious yell came from the receiver. “He Chunxi! Who the hell do you think you are? How dare you ditch me! So what, you just want to quit the show whenever you feel like it? Don’t want your dad’s life anymore? I’ll have someone pull the plug on your dad’s respirator right now!”

With that, the call hung up.

For a moment, the whole car sank into eerie silence. Gao Wen drew a long breath and dared not even wipe the cold sweat from his forehead. “Boss, let me handle this.”

Qin Jingzhou suddenly laughed. “Alright.” He patted his daughter’s back again. “You’ve suffered so much.”

He Chunxi leaned into her father’s shoulder, crying without a sound.

At this moment, the System spoke up too. “Not that I want to defend Ji Chun, but in the original story, he was flirtatious but really not a rule-breaker, just a generous, easy-to-please rich kid.”

Qin Jingzhou replied, “That Jin Li is probably right by his side now.”

The System offered a sarcastic, breezy, “I bet. After all, they must be a chaste couple, staying together past 2 a.m., right?”
